Reading 8th Notes On The Drums

In this lesson we’ll expand your music reading ability and learn to play 8th notes on the drums. In the last reading lesson, we learned that in 4/4 time, there are 4 quarter notes per measure. We count those 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4. If we divide each quarter note by 2, we get two 8ths notes per beat. So in a measure of 4/4 time there are eight 8th notes. There are two 8th notes for every quarter note in the measure.The way we count these is 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and, etc.
